Milan Furniture Fair: Source of inspiration for interior designers

In early April, I traveled to the capital of furniture design. The world’s largest furniture display in Milan is an incredible source of inspiration for my future projects as an architect and interior designer!

Milan Furniture Fair

Here you find the cream of the crop: The best designers from all over the world present their trends and innovations before an international audience. It is always a thrill for me to visit the fairgrounds, which stretch over 200,000 m2, as well as the flagship stores of the greatest producers in the city, and let myself be inspired. Professionals say that the Salone Internazionale del Mobile is a diverse trade show that virtually combines five fairs. Here you find furniture design, decorative objects and textiles as well as the newest trends in lamps and lighting. Young designers present their ideas in Salone Satellite.

Fascinating: a successful combination of yesterday and tomorrow

When redesigning a room, my goal is to create a space in which you feel absolutely right at home. With this in mind, I let myself be inspired at fairs and gather ideas for my projects. This is because each room that I design is a new challenge and a combination of history and the future. In the same vein, each object and every piece of furniture at the fair is a further development of a currently existing object. At the same time, it is something completely new and unique.

Moebelmesse-Mailand-SesselIn my last blog article, I wrote about Sustainability in interior design. I find it exciting to see how this topic is applied in creative ways at the Milan Furniture Fair. For example, Piet Hein Eek uses leftover pieces of Murano glass, which were stored for years by the traditional Parisian designer Veronese, to create completely new LED chandeliers as part of its project “Past & Future”. Here, the customers can participate in designing their chandeliers themselves. I think that is a fantastic idea!

Large furniture producers that are ahead of the times, in my opinion, include:

Giorgetti, Lamborghini, Minotti, Poltrona Frau, WALTER KNOLL AG & Co. KG, Wittmann, Cassina, Dedar, Missoni, Moooi.
